    Introduction

    Merrick & Company is looking for an Electrical Designer II for our growing San Antonio, TX office. This office specializes in Federal, State and Local Government electrical design projects including medium voltage power, gas distribution, and facility electrical systems.  This is a Full Time position with target start date of March 2018.

     

    Job Description

    Work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design / documentation of medium voltage power distribution including 15kV and 35kV of overhead and underground lines, service transformers, and electrical service to industrial, commercial and residential properties. Work requires knowledge of the NESC, CPS Energy or other utility’s standards, experience with 15kV and 35kV design for overhead and or underground systems, NEC as applicable for over 1000V design, field investigations and construction support.  Candidate shall be capable of performing electrical calculations, electrical system design and documentation, and be capable of self-guiding for project assignments under the supervision of PE licensed engineers.  Design software experience is a requirement, with knowledge of GIS systems and BIM (preferably REVIT) highly desired.  Construction administration will include As-Built drawing review, site inspection, and site investigation report production for overhead and underground systems.

     

    Candidates with electrical design experience of 600V and lower systems are encouraged to apply. Such systems include facility power distribution, lighting, grounding and lightning protection systems, motor control systems and instrumentation, fire alarm system, data communication raceway and cabling system. 

     

    The successful candidate shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.

     

    Required Experience

        • Four (4) years minimum of overhead, underground or combination experience is required
        • Experience with CPS Energy or other electric utility design projects is highly desired
        • Experience with DOD government work is highly desired
        • Minimum two(2) years of experience using AutoCAD, GIS or other design software based drawing generation, Revit experience is preferred
        • Experience using electrical calculation tools is desired, including SKM Power Tools, SKM Ground Mat, and lighting design software such as AGi32
        • Proficient using Microsoft Office Excel & Word
        • Experience using technical codes: NESC, NEC, ISA, IEEE Regulatory Codes
        • Desired design of facility electrical systems
        • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship
        • Local candidates strongly preferre
        • Degree Requirements: Associates degree or technical college certification is preferred
        • Candidate must pass a background check given the criteria set by the client

    Physical Requirements

        • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation (approximately 75%) and field visits for projects (approximately 25%).
