    Sr. Electrical-I&C Equipment Designer II



    Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Electrical-I&C Equipment Designer for our Oak Ridge, TN project office. This position supports Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects related to Department of Energy (DOE) work.  Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship.


    This team specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. Additional specialization includes the design of moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and facility upgrades.


    The ideal candidate will have a passion for electrical design, be able and willing to perform CAD as well as design of electrical and instrumentation/controls systems, be nimble in accepting a wide range of assignments both nuclear and non-nuclear, and enjoy a team design environment.   Relocation assistance will be provided as part of the overall compensation package depending on experience.


    Job Description

    The Electrical –I&C Designer will perform some design and layout of electrical, instrumentation, and controls equipment and wiring during the production of CAD documents, and coordinates with other Electrical or I&C Engineers and designers.  Work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment and instrumentation.  Perform non-routine assignments with little or no direction.


    Specific Position Requirements

    • Completes non-routine and complex assignments with little or no direction.
    • Follows general outline of project objectives, requirements, and design approaches prescribed by staff.
    • Coordinates work activities to meet schedules and ensures quality of product.
    • Develops, selects, and recommends procedures for preparation of designs/reports under general guidance.
    • Receives general guidance but operates independently.
    • Produces and manages the discipline’s CAD documents and models for a project using an expert working knowledge of the CAD software. May have expert knowledge in multiple CAD platforms.
    • Manages CAD design, layout, and interdisciplinary coordination in the production process documents.
    • May serve as the project design lead on medium sized projects and tasks.
    • Demonstrates technical advancement and/or specialization.
    • May supervise multiple staff as project design lead and schedules, manages quality and project reporting, and delegates work to project staff.
    • May serve as a technical manager for a small group of staff
    • May have some involvement with proposals and construction estimates.
    • Provides an active role in training and mentoring of less experienced staff.
    • May serve as a Discipline Representative managing and supervising several other designer staff members.
    • Manages CAD design of medium sized projects and tasks.
    • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.

     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of technical principles and practices.
    • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of engineering, architecture, planning, surveying, or administrative technique
    • Performs complex calculation
    • Microstation based drawing generation proficiency. AutoCAD and Revit proficiency is beneficial but not required.
    • Microsoft Office: Excel and Word.

    Required Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Associates Degree – Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience
    • Twelve (12) years experience, minimum
    • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship
