    Mechanical Engineer I – Energy & Chemicals



    Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy and Chemicals business unit with 1 - 5 years of experience in the industrial mechanical industry. This position will be full time.



    The position is for Merrick’s Greenwood Village, CO office. Local candidates strongly preferred.



    • Work with designers to develop P&IDs, isometrics, plans and sections, and general arrangement drawings.
    • Create equipment datasheets, specifications, bid packages, and bid tabs.
    • Work with piping and valve specifications.
    • Perform design calculations.
    • Follow quality assurance / quality control procedures to check designs.
    • Conduct site walkdowns and supplier equipment inspections.

    Required Credentials and Skills:

    • Bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited school.
    • Experience with industrial equipment including pumps, compressors, tanks, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Desired Credentials and Skills:

    • CAESAR II pipe stress analysis.
    • PV Elite pressure vessel analysis.
    • Experience with pipe supports.
    • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and or ASME B31.3 piping codes.
    • Knowledge of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes.
    • Knowledge of hydroelectric facilities.
    • Cogen and CHP projects.
    • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

    Physical Requirements

    • Travel to power generating sites and equipment fabricator shop locations.
    • Walking down plant systems and equipment, which includes climbing ladders and stairs.

    Work Environment

    This job will take place in a professional office environment when not in the field (20% travel is anticipated). This role routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, and plotting equipment.
