    Mechanical Engineer II  – Energy & Chemicals

     

    Introduction:

    Merrick is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy and Chemicals business unit with 7 - 12 years of experience in the power industry. This position will be full time.

     

    Location:

    The position is for Merrick’s Greenwood Village, CO office. Local candidates strongly preferred.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Interface with operating personnel at the generating stations to conduct root cause analysis and solve problems.
    • Work with designers to develop P&IDs, isometrics, plans and sections, and general arrangement drawings.
    • Create equipment datasheets, specifications, bid packages, and bid tabs.
    • Review and create piping and valve specifications.
    • Perform design calculations.
    • Assist in developing project scope, schedule, and budgets.
    • Follow quality assurance / quality control procedures to check designs.
    • Conduct site walkdowns and supplier equipment inspections.

     

    Required Credentials and Skills:

    • Bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited school.
    • Experience in the power sector including coal fired, combined cycle and combustion gas turbine generating stations.
    • Experience walking down power systems and providing high-level condition assessments.
    • Knowledge and experience in the use of consensus standards including ASME B31.1 piping code and the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain one.

     

    Desired Credentials and Skills:

    • CAESAR II pipe stress analysis.
    • PV Elite pressure vessel analysis.
    • Knowledge of ASME B31.3.
    • Knowledge of hydroelectric facilities.
    • Cogen and CHP projects.

     

    Physical Requirements

    • Travel to power generating sites and equipment fabricator shop locations.
    • Walking down plant systems and equipment, which includes climbing ladders and stairs.

    Work Environment

    This job will take place in a professional office environment when not in the field (20% travel is anticipated). This role routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, and plotting equipment.
