    WATER/WASTEWATER DIVISION MANAGER

     

    INTRODUCTION

    Merrick is a mid-sized multi-discipline, employee owned consulting engineering firm.  The Company’s long-range plan is to maintain a high-tech water & wastewater specialty division.  The primary water/wastewater group office is in Denver, Colorado.  Other Merrick offices outside of Colorado which offer water/wastewater services include San Antonio, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina.

     

    The Division Manager’s role will involve leadership of the water & wastewater division.  The primary focus will include management and quality control at the Denver office, but will also extend to other Merrick offices and markets promoting and providing solutions to water and wastewater problems.

     

    It is Merrick’s intention to provide comprehensive services – from conceptual planning through the final design and construction phases – all to incorporate engineering excellence.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

     

    • Directly supervise group (team) leaders. Managing, with team leaders, the team’s marketing program and project assignments to attain high quality products.
    • Monitor and evaluate Group and Team Leaders within the water/wastewater division. Provide advice and leadership as needed to attain both quality and profitability goals.
    • Provide, or obtain, the expertise required for each specialty project to obtain high-quality results. Quality control responsibility for all office production.
    • Manage/organize the office for efficiency, e.g. make sure right professional(s) are assigned to specific jobs; appropriate standard contract documents/specifications are available; provide practical educational seminars, etc. Some hands-on direct participation is expected.
    • Supervise/assist with Marketing and BD Program. Be visible primarily in the Colorado market.  Review/approve major and/or sensitive proposals.
    • Work with Business Unit management relative to growth, staffing, and financial performance.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an A.B.E.T. Accredited School is required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Fifteen (15) plus years of experience in water and wastewater engineering in Colorado strongly preferred
    • High ethical standards, unquestionably trustworthy.
    • The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, be sociable and friendly and to effectively interface with clients in the water sector.
    • Colorado (multi-state preferable) PE registration is required.
    • Must have demonstrated success in Marketing and Business Development professional engineering services in the Denver CO area.
    • Must be capable of directing and managing a multi-discipline team of design engineers or technicians on water and wastewater projects.
    • Dedicated to quality – “must do it right”.
    • Affiliations with RM AWWA-WEA is preferred.
    • At least five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience in Business Development and Project Management for municipal water projects
    • Strong technical design experience in water and wastewater projects
    • Proven track record of successful project delivery
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills

    • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.

    • Some client site visits will be required. Must be mobile in and around ladders, heavy equipment, power distribution systems and switchyards. 

     

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as but not limited to:  computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, scanners and plotters. 

     

    Position will require occasion trips to client sites, including large central power stations, renewable generation sites, advanced bioprocessing and chemical plants, refineries and other industrial facilities.  Candidate must be willing and able to take and comply with various safety requirements and work in noisy environments while executing their assigned tasks.
