Intern – Geographical Information Systems

 

Introduction

 

Merrick & Company is seeking a GIS Technician student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2022 at our Tucker, GA project office. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities!  The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2022.

 

We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September – November 2021. Resumes will be reviewed in December/January, interviews will take place in February/March 2022 and offers will be extended in March/April 2022. Timeframe subject to change.

 

Job Description

 

The Merrick Intern Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) processing.  

 

The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. Students who have recently graduated will not be considered.

 

Required Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of degree program
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, or a similar major
  • Knowledge and/or courses in GIS including:
    • Data management
    • GIS
    • Cartographic design
  • College courses in ESRI ArcGIS is required.
  • Familiarity with basic operations in ESRI ArcGIS software including:
    • Creation and editing of feature classes
    • Attribute edits
    • Labeling and annotation
    • Projection and scale
    • Basic cartographic methodologies
  • Must have a demonstrable good attendance record
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Must have a current instructor recommendation or reference
  • Local candidates only

Physical Requirements

 

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
