Senior Electrical Engineer I - Facility Design



Merrick & Company is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer for our Merritt Island, FL, San Antonio, TX or Duluth, GA office, supporting our High Performance Facility (HPF) business unit.  This office specializes in the design of facilities and related power systems, primarily for Government clients. Work assignments include electrical design for power generation, facilities, renovations, research labs, multi-purpose buildings and electrical systems. 


Job Description


We are seeking Sr. Electrical Engineer for Facility Design, Site Power design projects, and Power Analysis/Studies. This position requires excellent communication skills for critical facility electrical design.  Project work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage (1000V and lower) power distribution, medium voltage (up to 15kV) power distribution, power generation systems (backup power and prime power), grounding and lightning protection systems, motor control systems, lighting systems and controls, voice/data telecommunication cabling systems, access control, and security systems.  Candidate shall be capable of independently performing electrical calculation, design/documentation, developing specifications, field investigations, construction support (as builts, site inspection, and site investigation reports), and non-routine assignments.  Knowledge of BIM (especially REVIT) and AutoCAD is highly desired.  Exercise independent design and engineering judgment with collaboration from design staff.  Must be able to work in a team of supporting electrical engineers and designers to execute design projects. This person should have extensive knowledge on electrical regulatory codes and be highly skilled in facility electrical systems design. 


Required Experience

  • Twelve (12) years of experience in Electrical Engineering design
  • Experience with DOD government work is highly desired
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required. If this is not in the state of Florida, must be able to receive P.E. licensure via reciprocity.
  • Minimum two (4) years of experience using REVIT/AutoCAD or other design software-based drawing generation
  • Experience using electrical calculation tools is desired, including lighting and power software such as AGi32, Elum Tools, SKM Power Tools, and EasyPower.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Excel & Word
  • Experience using technical codes: NESC, NEC, ISA, IEEE Regulatory Codes Experience in document generation for power distribution and instrumentation & controls
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship
  • Access to the client site for this position requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Candidate must pass a background check given the criteria set by the client
