Mechanical Equipment Engineer II   Introduction Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Equipment Engineer for Los Alamos, NM office to serve as a staff engineer on technology projects for the Department of Energy (DOE).  This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full time position.   This position is located in Los Alamos, a small community located in the scenic high desert of Northern New Mexico. Los Alamos offers access to a wealth of outdoor activities, a family-friendly community, an excellent public-school system and a low crime rate. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing custom solutions, mentoring a team, and the outdoor life style of Northern New Mexico.   Job Description The Mechanical Engineer II will perform detailed design and analysis of custom equipment, individually and as part of design team. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hoods), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.   Scope/Key Responsibility Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures. Successful candidate will work under direct supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor and party chief.  Local candidates preferred.   Requirements - Experience:  One (1) to four (4) years of survey experience required. - Skills: Proficient with basic survey field equipment.  Experience with Trimble equipment is a benefit. - Duties: Work under the direction of a survey party chief to complete surveys for various public and private clients including federal, state, and municipal institutions, developers, contractors, and private landowners.    - Travel: Work will be located locally and regionally. Candidate may be required to travel up to one (1) week at a time and occasionally up to three (3) weeks at a time. - Must pass background test.  - Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. - A valid driver’s license, a clean DMV record and evidence of insurability is required. - Education:  High School Diploma or GED required. - Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Project Manager – Water/Wastewater   Introduction Merrick & Company is seeking a Project Manager with water and wastewater experience in Texas to join our growing Infrastructure Market Segment.  The position will be located in our San Antonio, TX location and will include some travel to other Merrick offices to support the growing practice. Our San Antonio group is currently performing work in the water and wastewater market for municipal water clients in the San Antonio region and is looking to expand our offering. This position will need an experienced project manager with a history of successfully wining and delivering projects.        Job Description - Must have demonstrated success in Marketing and Business Development professional engineering services in the San Antonio-Austin TX area. - Must be capable of directing and managing a multi-discipline team of design engineers or technicians on water and wastewater projects. - Will be expected to provide input to and participate in strategic planning for the team. Work closely with Business Unit management team to identify growth, project delivery, staffing and financial performance. - Will be expected to adopt and apply all Merrick policies and procedures and to apply them on assignments - Work closely with clients to effectively describe and deliver scope of work. - Prepares and oversees fee proposals for water and wastewater design work. - Must be capable of leading design teams and performing independent planning and design tasks, reviewing the designs of others, preparing construction documents, and managing the successful delivery of assigned projects. - Exercise initiative, judgment and knowledge commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. - The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills and to effectively interface with clients in the public and private water sector. - Limited travel may be required. Required Experience - Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an A.B.E.T. Accredited School.Master’s degree preferred. - Fifteen (15) plus years of experience in water and wastewater engineering in Texas strongly preferred - Established track record of success in business development and client satisfaction - At least five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience in Project Management of Municipal and Private Water projects - Strong technical design experience in water and wastewater projects - Proven track record of successful project delivery - Strong written and verbal communications skill. - Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. - Required Certifications: - P.E. (Professional Engineer) State of TX is required or able to secure within six months. - Affiliations with NC AWWA-WEA & NC APWA is preferred. This position provides estimating support services for Merrick’s clients in the energy and chemical industry.  The position will be based out of our growing Tulsa, OK, Greenwood Village, CO, or other Merrick office location.     Job Description   Cost Estimating Candidate will be required to perform construction cost estimating for energy and chemical type facilities, including oil and gas, bioprocessing and power for industrial plant units and others.  Estimating capabilities will include: - Prepare quantity takeoff from design drawings and sketches. - Evaluate current material pricing. - Recommend labor productivity factors for unique working conditions and locations. - Familiarity and ability to communicate with engineers and designers for all disciplines: - Architectural - Structural - Mechanical - Controls / Instrumentation - Electrical - Civil - Structural - Evaluate and recommend construction indirects required for a project. - Validating bidding climate. - Evaluate and recommend pricing using vendor quotes. - Work with engineers to develop estimate scope. - Detailed understanding of AACE International standards and recommended practices. - Estimating at various levels of scope definition: - Concept design (Parametric estimates) AACE Class 5 - Schematic design AACE Class 4 - Design development AACE Class 3 - Construction document (i.e. 30%, 60%, 90%) AACE Class 2 - Present completed estimates to internal and external stockholders. - Development of data base of past bid projects. - Develop and maintain estimating templates.
