Civil Engineer – P.E. required

 

Introduction

Merrick & Company is seeking a Civil Engineer II for our Greenwood Village, CO office. Local candidates preferred.

 

Job Description

Position includes mid to senior level professional design work on civil engineering projects for Local, State, and Federal Governments. Candidate must be capable of making sound engineering decisions, developing and organizing CAD drawings, creating project specifications and cost estimates, performing design calculations, and assembling contract documents while receiving instructions from supervisors and delegating work to designers and junior engineers. Design elements will include site layout, roadways, grading, storm drainage, water distribution and transmission, gas distribution, and wastewater collection and treatment systems.

 

The successful candidate will be required to interface with client, Federal, State, County, and Municipal government contacts on projects. Minimal travel required.

 

Required Experience

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering from an A.B.E.T. Accredited School
  • Must have a minimum five (5) years’ experience in civil site design; including site grading, roadway, paving, drainage, water distribution, natural gas distribution, and sanitary sewer collection.
  • Must have Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Prefer experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation. Experience using Microsoft Office is also preferred.
  • Experience with Municipal projects is a plus.
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD)/Department of Energy (DOE) government design projects is a plus.
  • Local candidates preferred/no relocation assistance provided.

Merrick & Company is seeking a candidate with up to two years’ experience in a Landscape Architecture office or a college graduate with an accredited degree in Landscape Architecture for an entry level position in our Charlotte, NC office. Although office experience is not required, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a history of success in an office or classwork and/or a completed internship in a Landscape Architecture office setting.

 

Job Description

Introduction
Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer for our Greenwood Village (Denver metro), CO or Albuquerque, NM offices.
 
Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship. 
 
This team specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.  Additional specialization includes the design of moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and facility upgrades.
 
The ideal candidate will have a passion for electrical and I&C design, be able and willing to perform CAD as well as engineering, be nimble in accepting a wide range of assignments both nuclear and non-nuclear, and enjoy a team design environment.   Relocation assistance will be provided as part of the overall compensation package depending on experience. 
 
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will design projects and supervise electrical designers.  Work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment and instrumentation.  Perform non-routine assignments with little or no direction.
 
Candidate should have extensive knowledge of nuclear related design and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
 
Specific Position Duties and Responsibilities
·         Attend client meetings and making presentations to clients
·         Perform Code Reviews
·         Lead design, development, and production of projects
·         Redline project drawings
·         Provide technical guidance and review of construction documents
·         Write design narratives and specifications
·         Communicate design changes to other disciplines
·         Perform project quality assurance/quality control, including independent technical reviews and interdisciplinary coordination reviews
·         Perform construction observation/administration
·         Work closely with a team of electrical engineers and designers
·         Problem solve, collaborate with, and mentor staff

Required Experience
·         Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of progressive experience in Electrical Engineering design
·         Degree Requirements:  Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
·         Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in Colorado or ability to obtain within (1) year from date of employment is required
·         Nuclear related (NQA-1, NRTL, etc.) design experience is required
·         Electrical calculations (power distribution, fault circuit analysis, lighting, and grounding) experience is required
·         Work in Department of Energy (DOE) environment is a plus
·         Good proficiency in AutoCAD based drawing generation experience is preferred
·         SKM or ETAP experience is strongly preferred
·         NEC, ISA, IEEE Regulatory Codes experience is required

Engineer will design solutions for a variety of complex technical problems in the electrical engineering discipline.  Design involves electrical distribution in facility/industrial complex utilizing 15kV medium voltage incoming source and building distribution through 208V.  Leading design efforts in: lighting, lighting control, unit substations, motor control centers, switchgears, switchboards, panelboards, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptable power supplies, diesel power generation, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and grounding, overcurrent protection, selective coordination, coordinated power system protection, fire alarm, intrusion detection, telecommunication, CATV, and ESS. 
 
Engineer will independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge to evaluate, select, and apply procedures and criteria to perform tasks and sequences of tasks. Engineer will lead other discipline engineers, project managers, and stakeholders. Engineer will lead in team meetings, prepare reports, calculations, and presentations utilizing extensive research and organized documentation as basis.
 
Minimum Requirements
·         Bachelor degree in Science or Engineering (BSc) from an accredited program with a minimum of ten (10) yrs of experience OR in lieu of BSc degree, candidate will provide a minimum of fifteen (15) years of directly related design as listed in job description and requirements below. 
·         Colorado registered Professional Engineer (PE) in good standing. Preferred certifications and memberships LEED, CEM, RCDD, IEEE, NFPA.
·         Proficient in report document software: Word, Excel, Power Point;
·         Strong proficiency in power system design software: ETap, SKM PTW, EZPower.
·         Preferred experience in scheduling software, and REVIT, ACAD, Smart Plant, and IES.
·         Strong proficiency in specification writing, document quality control, equipment selection, dimensional layout, vendor quotations, and providing bases of design and cost estimating.
·         Experience in UFC, FSG, PiP, MasterSpec, and knowledge of state of the-art-electrical distribution equipment as manufactured by GE Industrial, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Eaton, and ABB is strongly preferred.
·         Effective written and oral communication skills and meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.
·         Preferred membership to local organizations as active member and contributor.

Job Description

The internship will provide a currently enrolled student the opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and LiDAR processing. The intern will be exposed to a variety of projects ranging from large scale wide area mapping, NERC compliance corridor mapping, and small survey sites.

 

The position requires the collaboration with other technical staff, follow directions and schedules, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve.

 

Required Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of degree program
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, Geomatics, or a similar major
  • Knowledge and/or courses in mapping, photogrammetry, and aerial LiDAR data processing including:
    • Flight planning
    • Data management
    • Principles of Geodesy
    • GIS
    • Orthophoto production
    • Cartographic design
  • College courses in any of the following software packages are preferred:
