Senior Mechanical Engineer – Energy & Chemicals   Introduction: Merrick is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Power and/or Bioprocessing sector with at least 12 years of experience. The candidate may also work on renewable energy, oil & gas, and chemical projects. The responsibilities include, but not limited to leading projects and managing other engineers to maintain scope, schedule, and budget. The candidate must have a firm understanding of plant operations and be able to mentor less experienced engineers. This is a full-time position located in our Greenwood Village, Colorado office. Local candidates strongly preferred.   Responsibilities: - Interface with operating personnel at client sites to conduct root cause analysis and solve problems. - Develop scopes of work based on RFPs and pre-bid meetings with clients. - Support Merrick project managers by drafting comprehensive technical approaches for proposals. - Interpret scopes-of-work and translate them into executable project plans. - Communicate clearly with client project managers to report project status and describe technical solutions. - Work with other disciplines to develop primary documents including PFDs and P&IDs - Develop and manage all aspects of the mechanical design including specifications and datasheets for pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and rotating equipment. - Work with designers to develop piping isometric drawings. - Checking mechanical documents and interfaces from documents developed by other disciplines. - Contribute to the preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment datasheets. - Interface with suppliers and create bid tabs. - Create work orders for subcontractors to provide services on projects. - Manage the fabrication of equipment engineered by Merrick. - Mentor other mechanical engineers and designers. Required Credentials and Skills: - Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited school. - A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the power and/or bioprocessing sectors including coal-fired, gas fired and renewable power generating stations, and/or bioprocessing facilities. - Experience walking down industrial sites and providing high-level condition assessments. - Knowledge and experience in the use of consensus standards including ASME B31.1 and B31.3, the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, and API codes. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Professional Engineering License (PE). - Strong leadership skills are necessary to perpetuate and grow the mechanical engineering discipline at Merrick & Company. Desired Credentials and Skills: - Knowledge of hydroelectric facilities - Cogen and CHP projects - Knowledge of CAESAR II pipe stress - Power plant performance modeling - Experience with fabrication drawings including welding and NDE maps. - Experience with ASME Section IX weld procedures. - Experience in managing personnel. Project Manager - Power   Introduction Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to contribute to the company’s growing power practice based in our Chattanooga, TN office.  The business is currently comprised of heavy retrofit projects in fossil fuel and hydroelectric power plants and greenfield projects involving CHP and renewable resources.   Job Description This position is multidimensional in nature and requires elements of project management, team building, and client relationship building.    The successful candidate: - Must demonstrate proficiency in project management for A-E firms, including managing budgeted and scheduled design effort, and demonstrate skills in developing multi-discipline teams. - Must be willing to work in a design team environment, including directing the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegating work as required. - Meets with clients to prepare and or validate proposed scope of work. Responsibilities include analysis and detailed design of structural steel and concrete structures of power, refinery and chemical plant operating units; Perform engineering cost estimates, work with other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and piping group. Visit project sites to observe field conditions, inspection of existing structures, evaluate design constraints, and resolve construction related problems.   Job Description The ideal candidate will be proficient in preparing engineering calculations and engineering sketches; reviewing drawings; developing project proposals, scopes and budgets; generating specifications and technical reports; directing design staff in the preparation of construction drawings of sites and structures, including dimensions, and other engineering information. The Senior Structural Engineer will be a proficient user of engineering software applications and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Project Manager – Aerospace Projects   Introduction Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a team working on challenging, innovative projects within our High Performance Facilities Business Unit in our Merritt Island (Space Coast), FL office.   Duties  Responsible for maintaining client satisfaction and profitability for projects; primary area of work is with military and government clients. Meets with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of work. Prepares fee proposals for full-service design work. Once the proposal is accepted, establishes documents and electronic media files for internal accounting and storage of technical data. Establishes project design budget and schedule. Meets with individual disciplines to ensure an understanding of the scope of work. Ensures internal communication and coordination of design efforts occurs and schedules are met. Prepares all external communication and invoices. Reviews design documents for conformance to company standards and compliance with client’s scope of work.   Requirements - Extensive knowledge in working with NASA or Commercial Aerospace Projects, particularly relating to facilities and ground support equipment.  - Experience with the US Air Force, Air Force Center Engineer Center, NAVFAC, US Army Corps of Engineers, Intelligence Community, and Installation level contracting organizations is a plus. - Candidate must have a Bachelors degree from an ABET accredited institution in Engineering or Geotechnical Sciences. Alternatively, a Masters degree of Architecture from an accredited institution will be considered. - Professional licensure (PE/RA) is strongly desired. - PMP is desired. - Eight (8) - ten (10) years of combined experience in designing and managing medium to large sized multi-discipline projects. - Position requires proficiency with designing Military and Government full-service projects. - Must be proficient in managing clients, project management for A-E firms, managing to fee and demonstrate skills to lead multi-discipline teams. - Candidates must have proficiency with MS Office and MS Project. - Experience managing full-service design projects in Revit BIM across multiple offices is preferred. - Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. - Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility based on investigation current within the last four years is a plus. - Polygraph (CI or Full Scope) current within five (5) years is a plus.  - Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally. Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer I   Introduction Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer for Los Alamos, NM office to serve as a staff engineer on technology projects for the Department of Energy (DOE).  This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full time position.   This position is located in Los Alamos, a small community located in the scenic high desert of Northern New Mexico. Senior Mechanical Facilities Engineer   Introduction Merrick is seeking an experienced Mechanical Facilities Engineer to provide HVAC and Plumbing design for our High Performance Facility (HPF) team.  This team specializes in the design of facilities for a wide variety of Government clients.  This position will be based in our Merritt Island, FL office.   Job Description The engineer will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects. Work typically includes support of project proposals; design calculations; developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and sequences of operations; selection and layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems; and developing mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions. Develops scopes and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work. Assists in development of project schedules. - Will provide HVAC and Plumbing design for High Performance Facilities - Responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of design work. - Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. - Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments. - Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects. - Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional and/or complex problems, direction on modified techniques and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. - Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with engineers, designers, and administrative staff. - Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignment. - Presents design reviews to clients. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program. - Minimum twelve (12) years of experience. - PE License required. - Client projects for this position: - Require sole U.S. Citizenship - Prohibit Dual Citizenship - Active DOD clearance is a plus.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability and willingness to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance. - Experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and associated engineering calculations (e.g. Air-handling systems, laboratory fume hood exhaust air systems, duct systems, heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls). - Experience sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment (e.g. air-handling units, fans/blowers, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, HEPA filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls). - Proficient in editing and writing mechanical construction and equipment specifications. - Experience performing engineering quality assurance checks of project designs. - Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. - Experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software. - Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards. - Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, and ASME B31 codes. - Familiar with SMACNA standards. - Familiar with NFPA standards. - Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit building information modeling software. - LEED or Green Globes certification is a plus. It’s a chance to grow with and be involved from the outset in establishing a sustainable and successful water business in the Charlotte region, and beyond.   Required Experience   - A Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering. - Master’s Degree preferred. - 5+ years’ experience. - Registered professional engineer. - Experience in developing master plans, facility plans and sewer system evaluations (assessments). - Familiarity with wastewater or water infrastructure (pipeline and pump stations) as well as WTP and WWTP design and construction is required. - Prior consulting experience working with municipal clients on wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects. - Must be a team player and be able to work on multi-disciplinary project teams. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. - Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality. - Some travel may be required. - Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD), water and sewer hydraulic modeling, storm water management, and state and local permitting a plus. - Experience working directly with local/regional clients is a plus.  Required Certifications:  - P.E.
