Sr. Mechanical Equipment Engineer I Introduction Merrick is seeking an experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the High Performance Facilities Business Unit in order to support NASA and other federal and aerospace projects for our growing new office in Merritt Island, FL. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of facilities and Ground Support Equipment in support of the aerospace industry.   Job Description - The Senior Mechanical Engineer will serve as a lead engineer for small teams of engineers and designers within the mechanical equipment design group and interface with other disciplines (electrical, I&C, structural, and mechanical systems). - This individual is a degreed engineer capable of engineering Aerospace Ground Support (GSE) equipment, prototype/one-off custom equipment, specialty research equipment and custom-designed mechanisms and managing multiple tasks. Tasks include the design of material handling systems, test stands and articulating structures, tooling design, equipment integration and installation, and preparation of fabrication drawings, specifications, datasheets, acceptance test plans, analyses, and calculations. - The successful candidate will delegate work to other engineers and designers and will check their work on projects. Additionally, the candidate will assist and develop design criteria, manage work scope, schedule, and budgets. Project Manager – Clearance Required   Introduction Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a team working on challenging, innovative projects within our High Performance Facilities Business Unit in any of multiple Merrick locations including Greenwood Village (Denver Metro), CO; Arlington (D.C. area), VA; San Antonio, TX; Duluth, GA; Decatur (Atlanta area), GA; and Merritt Island (Space Coast), FL.   Duties  Responsible for maintaining client satisfaction and profitability for projects; primary area of work is with military and government clients with construction budgets up to $50 million. Meets with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of work. Prepares fee proposals for full-service design work. Once the proposal is accepted, establishes documents and electronic media files for internal accounting and storage of technical data. Establishes project design budget and schedule. Meets with individual disciplines to ensure an understanding of the scope of work. Ensures internal communication and coordination of design efforts occurs and schedules are met. Prepares all external communication and invoices. Reviews design documents for conformance to company standards and compliance with client’s scope of work.   Requirements - Extensive knowledge in working with the US Air Force, Air Force Center Engineering Center, NAVFAC, US Army Corps of Engineers, Intelligence Community, and Installation level contracting organizations. - Candidate must have a Bachelors degree from an ABET accredited institution in Engineering or Geotechnical Sciences. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program. - Minimum five (5) years of experience in Mechanical Facilities HVAC and plumbing/piping systems. - Previous experience with nuclear facility design and engineering is a plus. - Previous experience with DOE or NNSA projects is a plus. - Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Working knowledge in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and associated engineering calculations (e.g. Air-handling systems, laboratory fume hood exhaust air systems, duct systems, heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls). - Experience sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment (e.g. air-handling units, fans/blowers, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, HEPA filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls). - Excellent writing and communication skills with the capability for generating technical report and design guides. - Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. - Experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software. - Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards. - Working knowledge of UMC, UPC, and ASME B31 codes. - Familiar with SMACNA standards. - Familiar with NFPA standards. - Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit building information modeling software. This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.   Job Description Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer works directly with and organizes small teams to produce 3D models, drawings and fabrication packages of custom equipment, independently and with direction from the project engineer. Tasks include the design of containment systems (gloveboxes, containment hoods), material handling systems, equipment integration and installation, and preparation of fabrication drawings, specifications, datasheets, acceptance test plans and calculations. - Work in a design team environment, direct the work of junior engineers and designers, delegate work as required, and take design direction from senior-level engineers. Key Responsibilities - Detailed design activities include preparation of fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, test plans, and detailed equipment sizing & qualification calculations. - Independent planning and execution of mechanical engineering design tasks within schedule and budget commitments. - Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures. - Coordinate and communicate detailed phases of design work with other engineering disciplines. - Provide shop support during fabrication and testing.
