Project Manager – Nuclear and Life Science Support   Introduction Merrick & Company provides full service nuclear and life science design solutions to government and institutional clients. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented individual to serve as a Project Manager to support our operations in Ottawa, Canada.   Merrick's Ottawa office supports a wide range of clients and projects in the nuclear and life sciences markets.  Merrick has some very exciting projects including design of nonreactor nuclear facilities, hot cells, gloveboxes, and specialty equipment for customers including Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, and commercial medical isotope suppliers.     We’ve been successful in winning some large, complex and exciting projects and need a strong project manager accustomed to a regulated work environment with discipline, ingenuity, motivation and skills to lead a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers.  Merrick is seeking candidates who have technical and project management experience with design and construction of nuclear/hazardous facility systems, structures and components with an emphasis on confinement of radioactive and other hazardous materials.   This position will be in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.   Job Description This position will provide project and engineering management of a highly qualified and experienced staff of multi-discipline engineers and designers.   Responsibilities include: - Serving as a point of contact with the customer, developing project plans, forecasting, establishing and updating project cost estimates and schedules. - Directing/supervising engineering leads. - Managing project resources - Executing projects per the project plans, managing change, and ensuring technical adequacy of the project deliverables. - Executing projects in accordance with established and exact project QA requirements - Marketing for new work, proposing on new efforts, and developing a network of clients. - The technical focus of the applicant will be on design of non-reactor nuclear facilities and nuclear containment and shielding equipment including design of hot cells, gloveboxes, specialty mechanical handling equipment and supporting nuclear facility systems, structures and components. Mechanical Piping Designer with Creo   Introduction Merrick & Company is looking to expand our Process Piping Designer staff in our growing Oak Ridge, TN office. We are seeking an experienced Process Piping Designer to support various long term projects that start immediately. The ideal candidates will have a passion for nuclear related design, problem solving and the outdoor lifestyle of Tennessee.   Job Description The Process Piping Designer will be responsible for the design of the process/mechanical piping systems, complying with process piping standards and accepted industry practices.   Responsibilities include generation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), preparation of 3D modeling of equipment and piping systems, development of detailed isometric drawings from the 3D model and equipment layout drawings, and field walk-downs as required to identify existing conditions and tie-in points.   The designer will utilize AutoCAD to design engineering drawings. The designer will generate process, mechanical and piping deliverables, taking direction from other disciplines. Project Analyst - Scientist (Washington DC Area)    Introduction Merrick is seeking a Scientist with a technical education in biology or similar discipline with experience in Life Sciences programs to join a diverse team of scientists and engineers. This individual will perform technical analysis, development and review of products and deliverables. This position is assigned to the Washington, D. C. area and will be based out of the Merrick office in Arlington, VA.   Job Description The successful candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude, who possesses excellent organizational skills, exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong critical thinking capabilities, and attention to detail. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and able to identify needs, take initiative, work independently, and carry project tasks and assignments to successful completion. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, many stakeholders and competing deadlines. Electrical Engineer    Job Description Merrick is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer for our Chattanooga, Tennessee office, to serve in a variety of energy markets including power generation, particularly within generation facilities such as coal, combined cycle and simple cycle gas turbines, hydroelectric, wind and solar generation, and power delivery, such as substation and transmission.  Other projects will include midstream and downstream oil & gas, and renewable fuels. This is a direct, full time position with Merrick & Company.   Scope/Key Responsibilities This engineering position will include the following key responsibilities: - Under minimal supervision of senior engineers develop electrical design documents and drawings. - Being primary interface with clients, project management, procurement professionals, and other engineering disciplines in matters dealing with project electrical systems. - Developing electrical basis of design and scope of work documents. - Developing equipment specifications for electrical equipment, including power transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, motor specs, and other auxiliary electrical equipment. - Develop electrical calculations, drawings and reports. - Ensuring technical accuracy and conformance to project design criteria of engineered work products. - Ensuring appropriate procedures, design guidelines, and design tools are utilized on projects. - Travel to domestic client project sites to support projects and assist with marketing Merrick’s capabilities.  Required Experience - Minimum of twelve (12) years of electrical design experience in energy, power generation, power delivery, and power transmission utilities and/or related industries. - Expertise in performing utility protection and control designs - Strong understanding of a variety of existing and new schemes - Highly Proficient in control and wiring diagram retrofit designs - Extensive Experience performing transformer, motor, feeder protection calculations - Expertise in HV, MV and LV switchgear, protection relays, electrical coordination studies and electrical calculations is required. - Expertise encompassing industrial power document development such as electrical load lists, one-line diagrams, short circuit, load flow and arc flash analysis, power and control schematics, hazardous area classification, grounding layouts, lighting layouts, electrical equipment specifications, power and MCC panel layouts. - Experience working successfully in a collaborative environment. - Proficient knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API, ISA) - Experience with power analysis design software (ETAP). - Proficient knowledge of electrical distribution systems at various voltages (120 VAC, 480VAC, 4160VAC, and 15KV) as they relate to the power generation industry and other heavy industrial projects. - Relay Programming experience required (SEL, Beckwith, Basler, GE, etc) - Excellent project execution and team communication skills. - Experience working on refurbishment and upgrades of existing industrial facilities. Proficiency in communicating with client engineering and site staff. - Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Senior Electrical Engineer I - Facility Design   Introduction Merrick & Company is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer for our Merritt Island, FL, San Antonio, TX or Duluth, GA office, supporting our High Performance Facility (HPF) business unit.  This office specializes in the design of facilities and related power systems, primarily for Government clients. Work assignments include electrical design for power generation, facilities, renovations, research labs, multi-purpose buildings and electrical systems.    Job Description   We are seeking Sr. Electrical Engineer for Facility Design, Site Power design projects, and Power Analysis/Studies. This position requires excellent communication skills for critical facility electrical design.  Project work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage (1000V and lower) power distribution, medium voltage (up to 15kV) power distribution, power generation systems (backup power and prime power), grounding and lightning protection systems, motor control systems, lighting systems and controls, voice/data telecommunication cabling systems, access control, and security systems.  Candidate shall be capable of independently performing electrical calculation, design/documentation, developing specifications, field investigations, construction support (as builts, site inspection, and site investigation reports), and non-routine assignments.  Knowledge of BIM (especially REVIT) and AutoCAD is highly desired.  Exercise independent design and engineering judgment with collaboration from design staff.  Must be able to work in a team of supporting electrical engineers and designers to execute design projects. This person should have extensive knowledge on electrical regulatory codes and be highly skilled in facility electrical systems design.    Required Experience - Twelve (12) years of experience in Electrical Engineering design - Experience with DOD government work is highly desired - Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required. This role requires an individual capable of applying a wide range of knowledge of architectural principles and practices among multiple clients and projects - Experience in all phases of design, with track record of completed, successful projects. - Demonstrated ability to effectively create presentations and communicate concepts to clients and associates – often those without architecture or engineering backgrounds - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing - Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment - Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and with strong attention to detail - Ability to consistently meet deadlines, completing tasks as previously defined - Ability to travel internationally - 10% - 15% of the time.  - Ability to write and edit technical specifications - Proficient working in Revit, AutoCAD, 3D modeling programs (Sketch Up & Revit preferred) and Adobe Creative Suite - Skilled in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint - Local candidates preferred, or willingness to relocate/commute to Northern Virginia - The client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship. - Must have an active US DOD Secret Clearance, or the ability and willingness to obtain a Secret clearance.  Physical Requirements - Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. - Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted - May be required to lift up to 20 lbs. - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality. - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Occasional travel to client facilities and project sites require ability to climb ladders and inspect.
